Book Review: Shopaholic and Baby
Becky Bloomwood, the title character in Sophie Kinsella’s Shopaholic series, returns with a whole new bag of antics. This time she’s expecting her first baby with her loving, but overworked husband Luke Brandon. Becky’s not sure she’s cut out for parenting, but shopping for designer baby goods sure is fun. But things aren’t all prams and booties when the must-have celebrity doctor turns out to be Luke’s college sweetheart. Becky devises a series of wacky plans to make sure Luke isn’t cheating on her, all while making the necessary preparations for the baby.
Those new to the series would do well to start with the first volume Confessions of a Shopaholic to get a feel for the over-the-top zany behavior of the protagonist. That said, if you’re a chick-lit fan, these books are fun, easy-to-read diversions and a bit addicting once you get started.
Movie alert!: Isla Fisher will be playing Becky in the film adaptation slated for a possible late 2008 release. I always had a hard time picturing Becky, but I think this casting is spot on.
