Book Review: Audrey, Wait! by Robin Benway

Like many high school girls, Audrey’s now ex-boyfriend is in a band. Unlike most high school girls, however, her ex-boyfriend’s band skyrockets to the top of the Billboard charts. With a song about their breakup. Almost overnight, Audrey has to deal with the realities of being a minor celebrity — the misquoted interviews, fans stalking her at school, and the paparazzi preventing her from leaving her house. Oh yeah, and she still has to be a normal teenage girl, as if that wasn’t hard enough.
Audrey’s a strong character — sarcastic and smart, but not without some self-doubt. In an age where getting your fifteen minutes of fame seems of utmost importance, it’s refreshing to see a character who rejects an easy moment in the spotlight. And while the book’s humor comes from the outrageous circumstances of her celebrity, at heart the story focuses on how the situation affects Audrey’s relationships with her parents, best friend, and new crush.

I saw the author speak at the Festival of Books last year, wanted to read the book, and have never gotten around to it! Maybe this will provide inspiration.
She was at the Festival of Books this year too! I saw her on a panel with Cecil Castellucci, Lisa Yee, Lauren Myracle and Deb Caletti.
